CAT 2011 ends today; students satisfied

Out of approximately 2.5 lakh candidates who registered for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2011, 2,00,687 students appeared for the exam until November 17, according to the information provided by Prometric, the test provider for CAT 2011.
While Friday is the last day for CAT 2011, students till now have expressed satisfaction over the way the much-hyped online test was conducted.
There is no change expected in the evaluation or the scoring pattern of CAT this year and the organisers will be coming out with a report on the overall experience of the CAT 2011 within a couple of weeks.
CAT is conducted each year by the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) for admissions to their courses but this year even the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) will consider CAT scores for admission to their management courses.
“It’s easier to take the online tests unlike paper-based ones in which we have to fill the answer circle, but now we simply click it. Therefore, our speed increases,” said Apoorva Singhal, a candidate.
Prof Janakiraman Moorthy, convenor for CAT 2011 said: “The experiences this year has been satisfactory, considering the student reactions that we received. The evaluation process for CAT scoring will remain similar. But how much weightage will be given to CAT scoring in terms of admissions will be the separate decision for each IIM. It is still too early to make any recommendations for conducting the CAT next year.”
